The moment has finally arrived. I’m fulfilling the promise in my blog’s header – I’m going from ‘here’ (France) to ‘there’ (Australia).
I leave Paris tomorrow with my husband, Jim, and we will land in Perth, Western Australia some time next week. Okay, we arrive on Thursday afternoon. But 20 hours is still a long darn time to spend in a plane.
Thanks to all of you out there in blog-land for following and supporting my journey.
What will happen once I get ‘there’? I can promise that I won’t just fall into step with everyday life and let it get the better of me. The adventures are bound to keep on coming, and I’ll do my best to report on them here.
Right now, things are looking up for our big move:
- We both have part-time jobs waiting for us – which we didn’t even have to look for.
- We have a place to stay until we find a home of our own to rent.
- My mum is kindly lending us her car on a pretty much full-time basis.
- I emailed my photo to all my old friends so (here’s hoping) they’ll remember who I am.
I’m impatient to be somewhere stable and looking forward to being consistent for a while. I have a lot of catching up to do – with family, old friends and the world.
I’ve been off the map of late. I used to be so up-to-date with everything and right now – shock, horror! – I:
- Am still listening to my favourite albums of 2010!
- Only just started season three of ‘The Wire’!
- Saw online just two days ago that Beyoncé was thought to have faked her baby bump (the original report dates way back to October).
I can, however, tell you about all of Adele’s singles because she’s being played non-stop on every radio station in France. Sigh.
Please feel free to leave any suggestions on hot new music, films and television shows in the comments section. Why not get me up-to-date on world events while we’re at it? I have 20 whole hours to fill in the plane tomorrow…
I’m not your go-to girl for world news updates, that’s for sure; I knocked my TV over and it broke last winter, and have been living without news or TV since. Which is fine. I love Adele, but overkill is overkill, and can make you hate an artist you might otherwise love. AS for films, check out this old one starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus – What About Bob. It’s histerical.
Good luck on your Australian re-location, and those new jobs. You’ll be settled before ya know it
Here’s the movie on You Tube in 10 parts…a patient (Murray) moves in with his Psychiatrist (Dreyfus) for summer vacation, and drives his shrink insane.

Excellent! Thanks for the film tip. Will definitely check it out. I’m a big fan of Bill Murray, and this is one of his films that I haven’t seen.
Good luck to you and Jim. I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures in Perth. Until then, safe travels.
Thanks Jackie
